Step 1: Assemble the Mount and Solar Panel
First, assemble the mounting components before attaching them to a surface.
IMPORTANT: To make assembly easier, do not attach the solar panel to the ball joint before the ball joint is secured to the L-bracket.
- Take the Ball Joint and screw it onto the L-Bracket.
- Take the Solar Panel and position it so the charging cable is facing toward the back.
- Screw the Solar Panel onto the Ball Joint.
Note: only finger-tighten the connections. Do NOT over tighten or use tools to tighten.
Step 2: Install the Bracket on a Surface
Choose a location and securely attach the assembled bracket.
- Select a Location: Choose a mounting spot where the Solar Panel will receive direct, unfiltered sunlight for most of the day. The ideal installation height is approximately 8-10 feet off the ground.
- Route the Cable: Feed the Solar Panel's USB-C cable through the center hole of the L-Bracket. Use the small slit in the bracket to position the cable so the bracket can sit flush against the mounting surface.
- Secure the Bracket: Use the four (4) provided screws to fasten the L-Bracket securely to the surface.
Step 3: Attach and Position the Camera
Once the bracket is mounted, you can connect and position your camera.
- Connect the Solar Panel: On the back of the camera, open the small rubber "door" on the cover. Plug the USB-C cable from the solar panel into the camera's port. Ensure the connection is snug and the cover itself is closed firmly to maintain a weather-resistant seal.
- Mount the Camera: Align the three notches on the back of the camera with the three lugs on the mounting bracket. Position slightly to the right of the mounting bracket.
- Lock it in Place: Gently press the camera onto the bracket and twist it clockwise to lock it. You will feel a positive click as it secures into its final position.
- Manage Cables: Gently pull any excess cable back through the L-Bracket and use cable clips or ties (not included) to secure any loose wiring.
- Aim Your Camera: Open the DEFEND by Tactacam app and use the Live View feature to see what your camera sees. From here you can Adjust the camera's position. View this Link for Live View Steps.
Tips for Optimal Performance
Proper camera placement is critical for the best results. Keep these tips in mind when choosing a location.
- Height: The optimal installation height is 8-10 feet.
- Sunlight: Aim the Solar Panel toward the sun, but try to avoid pointing the camera lens directly into the sunrise or sunset, as this can wash out images.
- Motion Detection: For best results, position the camera so that expected movement travels across the camera's field of view (perpendicular), not directly toward or away from it.
-
Avoid False Triggers: Aim the camera away from constantly moving objects like busy streets, flags, or swaying tree branches. You can also adjust the Motion Sensitivity setting in the app to best fit your environment.
