Defend 360: Setting up your Camera

The DEFEND 360 camera requires the DEFEND by Tactacam app for operation and is incompatible with the Reveal app. Setup involves installing the antenna, fully charging the battery, creating a DEFEND account with a subscription plan, and adding the camera via QR code in the app. The camera uses a pre-installed multi-carrier SIM card and automatically connects to the strongest cellular network, enabling features like Live View without Wi-Fi.

IMPORTANT: DEFEND App Required

Please note the DEFEND 360 is compatible only with the DEFEND by Tactacam mobile app. This camera will not function on the Reveal app. Please ensure you are planning to use the DEFEND security ecosystem before proceeding.

Step 1: Prepare Your Camera

 

Before activating your camera, you'll need to complete two simple hardware steps.

  1. Install the Antenna
    • Firmly screw the included antenna onto the gold connector located on the side of the camera.
  2. Fully Charge the Battery
    • The camera comes with a pre-installed rechargeable battery. We recommend charging it to 100% before first use. You have two options for charging:
      • In the Camera: (Recommended method) Open the rubber gasket on the back of the camera and insert the charging cable directly into the charging port.
      • Separately: You can remove the battery from the camera compartment and connect the charging cable directly to the port on the battery itself. *You will need to remove that Cover to access the battery.

Step 2: Set Up Your Account and Subscription

 

You will need a DEFEND account and an active subscription plan to receive images from your camera.

  1. Download the App
    • Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search for DEFEND by Tactacam. Download and install the app.
  2. Create an Account or Log In
    • If you are a new user: Open the app or visit the DEFEND Web Portal to create a new account.
    • If you have an existing account: Simply log in to the app or web portal with your email and password.
  3. Choose a Subscription Plan

    • Once your account is created, you will be prompted to select a subscription plan. A plan is required to activate your camera and receive media.

      Note for Apple (iOS) Users: All subscription plan purchases must be made through the DEFEND Web Portal. You cannot purchase a plan from within the iOS app.

Step 3: Add and Activate Your Camera

 

With your account ready, you can now add your DEFEND 360 to the app.

  1. From the app's Home page, tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner.
  2. From the menu, select + Add a Camera.
  3. Choose the subscription plan you wish to assign this camera to and select the DEFEND 360 model.
  4. The app will open your phone's camera. Scan the QR code located on the top of your DEFEND 360 camera.

  5. Follow the remaining in-app prompts to complete the activation.

    Pro-Tip: Using Live View for Setup

    The DEFEND 360 uses a cellular connection, so it does not require Wi-Fi. This allows you to use the Live View feature in the app to see what your camera sees in real-time, helping you find the perfect position and angle during initial setup.

About the Smart Network Connection

 

Your DEFEND 360 is designed for maximum reliability with no-hassle connectivity.

  • Pre-installed SIM Card: The camera includes a non-removable, multi-carrier SIM card. You do not need to purchase one separately.
  • Automatic Network Selection: When you activate and power on your camera, it automatically scans for and connects to the strongest available cellular network from multiple carriers in your location. This process repeats every time the camera is powered on, ensuring an optimal connection.
