Summary:
This article provides a quick start guide to your new Solar Panel R5. Before deploying your Solar Panel R5, turn off your camera and fully charge the panel via USB using the included cable and a 5V, 2A+ adapter. Always inspect the unit for damage before charging, and plug it in at room temperature (32°F–113°F) in a well-ventilated area, unplugging it once all LEDs stay lit to avoid overcharging. To maximize battery life, avoid partial charges and store the panel in a cool, dry place at a 40–60% charge if keeping it put away long-term. Finally, while all users benefit from the built-in solar technology, advanced metrics like charging history and panel efficiency are exclusively available when connected to a REVEAL 4.0 camera via a barrel jack.
How to Charge:
Note: Fully charge your Solar Panel R5 before deploying in the field.
For best results and the most accurate battery reporting, ensure that your camera is turned off and that your Solar Panel R5 is fully charged via USB before deployment.
- Ensure battery and charging cable are in good condition:
- Inspect the battery for any visible damage or swelling. If damaged, do not charge it and dispose of it properly.
- Inspect the charging cable for any frayed wires or defects.
- Connect the battery to the charging cable’s USB-C connector. Insert the other USB-C end of the cable into the adaptor port and ensure a proper connection.
- Plug the charger into a power outlet.
- Once the battery reaches full charge (all LEDs are illuminated and not blinking), disconnect the battery from the charger.
- Store the battery properly after charging. If you’re not using the battery immediately, store it in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving the battery fully charged or completely discharged for extended periods, as this can reduce its lifespan.
READ BEFORE USING:
Use only the included charging cable: Always use the supplied charging cable and a 5V, 2A+ USB-C charging adapter.
Charge in a safe location:
Charge in a cool, dry area away from flammable materials or extreme temperatures. Do not charge the battery on a bed, sofa, or in any area where airflow is restricted.
Avoid overcharging:
Overcharging can reduce battery life and pose safety risks. Do not exceed the recommended charging time or voltage.
Charge at room temperature:
Avoid charging the battery when temperatures are below 32F (0C) or above 113F (45C), as this may damage the battery or affect its performance.
Charging Tips
Do not charge if damaged:
If the battery has been dropped, exposed to liquid, or shows signs of damage, do not charge it and contact Tactacam Customer Service for further instructions.
Avoid partial charges:
Frequent partial charges can shorten the battery’s lifespan over time. Whenever possible, try to charge the battery fully.
Storage:
If you plan to store the battery for an extended period, it’s recommended to store it at around 40-60% charge. Avoid leaving it in a fully charged or empty state for long periods.
ADVANCED INSIGHTS:
Please note that the Advanced Insights will only be available when using a REVEAL 4.0 Camera via a barrel jack. With this connection, you can analyze and view the Advanced Insights such as panel output, charging history, and efficiency.
If you do not have a 4.0 Camera, you will still benefit from the larger solar array, solar array technology, and Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT).
