Summary:
The article provides an overview of various power solutions for cameras, including external 12V batteries, solar panels, and battery packs. It highlights the benefits of using an external 12V battery for extended camera operation and the compatibility of the REVEAL Solar Panel with the REVEAL app, though it always shows a full charge. The SK Solar Panel is tailored for specific camera models, while the Herd 360 Solar Panel features an integrated battery for optimal sunlight use. The LiPo Pack is a rechargeable option, and AA batteries offer convenience, with lithium providing better performance in extreme conditions. The choice of power source should align with specific camera models and monitoring needs.
1. Battery Box (External 12V Battery)
Maximize your camera's runtime with an external 12-volt battery.
- Primary Power: Designed as the main power source for extended operation.
- Versatile Compatibility: Works with common 12V batteries (lawn mower, car, marine), offering larger capacity and longer life than standard batteries.
- Long-Lasting Power: Ideal for long monitoring periods without frequent changes.
- Homestead Use: Convenient for home setups using a 12V SLA battery in a protective box with a cable to the camera.
- Common Sizes: Compatible with 12V batteries rated at 7.5Ah, 10Ah, 12Ah, and 16Ah.
- External Power Adapter Cable DC Power Adapter 5.5x2.1mm Female Jack to 4.0x1.7mm Male Plug
2. REVEAL Solar Panel
This solar panel is intended to provide power for your REVEAL cameras. Reveal Solar Panel.
- Battery Level in App: The battery level shown in the REVEAL app for this panel will always display 100%, regardless of its actual charge.
- Use Backup Batteries: Always install AA or LiPo batteries in your camera. They will provide power when the solar panel becomes depleted.
- Voltage Output: When tested, the panel will output approximately 12 volts.
- Charge Indoors First: Before outdoor use, fully charge the panel indoors using a 5-Volt, 1-Amp charging block (not included).
- Direct Sunlight is Essential: For the Large Solar Panel to charge effectively and power your REVEAL camera, it requires direct sunlight for most of the day. Cloudy or shaded conditions will significantly reduce its charging capability.
-
V2 Compatibility: The V2 Solar Panel is specifically designed to charge the V2 Lipo Pack.
Additional Solar Panel Options:
These solar panels are compatible with the REVEAL line: (this is the correct adapter size, so you don't need to purchase that separately):
- Amazon: Bigfoot Solar Charger
- Amazon: WingHome-Rechargeable Battery
- HERD360 Solar Panel/Pack
3. SK Solar Panel (for Specific SK Camera Models)
Directly charge the Lipo battery in your compatible SK camera.
- No Internal Battery: This panel does not store power itself.
- Compatible Models: Works with XB, SK, X 2.0, and X-Pro camera models.
- 5V Output: Outputs around 5 volts in full sunlight.
- Limited Charging: Only charges the V1 LiPo battery pack.
4. Herd 360 Solar Panel
Power your REVEAL camera with this dedicated solar solution.
- Integrated Battery: Features a 10-watt panel with a built-in 20,000 mAh in the 1020/1025 Model.
- Photo Capacity Guide: Best for capturing around 200-300 photos per day. Performance may vary.
- Maximize Sunlight: Requires as much direct sunlight as possible for optimal operation.
- Use 12V Port: We recommend connecting this panel to the 12-volt port on your Herd 360 Solar Panel.
5. LiPo Pack (Rechargeable Lithium Polymer Battery)
A rechargeable battery for REVEAL cameras and solar panels.
- Charging Indicator: A red light shows when charging via a USB-C cable and a 5-Volt 1-Amp charger.
- 8.36V Full Charge: Reaches approximately 8.36 volts when fully charged.
- App Battery Display: The in-app battery level might fluctuate, showing full around 90% and low below 30%.
- Compatibility: All the panels will charge the V2 Lipo Pack.
6. AA Batteries (Alkaline or Lithium)
A common and convenient power source for many cameras.
- Lithium Advantages: Longer lifespan and better performance in extreme temperatures compared to alkaline. Voltage stays consistent longer.
- Alkaline Basics: A more affordable option for shorter use in moderate conditions. Voltage gradually decreases with use.
- 1.5V per Battery: Each AA battery provides about 1.5 volts.
- Typical Configuration: Cameras usually use two sets of 6 AA batteries, totaling 9V or more when new.
- Alkaline Dead Voltage: Generally considered depleted when each battery drops to 1-1.2 volts.
Choosing the right power source depends on your camera model and monitoring needs.
